Student maintenance loan 'may need to increase'
The maintenance loan currently available to students may need to increase, as many are forced to work in order to afford essentials, it has been claimed.
According to the National Union of Students (NUS), the current stipend is not sufficient help with money to carry students through their years of study.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson welcomed news that the government is recognising the trouble with debt levels that graduates experience of leaving education.
"At the time when they’re most financially vulnerable, they’re being hit with quite hefty payback," she asserted.
"We're very pleased the government has now started to realise the perilous situation graduates find themselves in after their time at university."
In related money news Gemma Tumelty, national president of the union, recently welcomed the government's focus on education in its recent comprehensive spending review.
