Consumers 'do not understand green energy'
Consumers are keen to switch to a cheaper energy supplier to help with debt payments but are not buying into green energy policies, it has been suggested.
While understanding finance may be a problem for some Britons, the complexities of green energy have provide to be a turn-off for most consumers, suggested Tim Wolfenden, head of home services for personal finance advisory firm uSwitch.
"Consumers feel [green energy is] a little complex. They don't fully understand it … it's not fully explained very well. So consumers haven't really bought into it," he said.
Many consumers who need help with debt could consider switching their energy supplier after uSwitch reported last week that British Gas are intending to hike their gas and electricity prices by 15 per cent.
However, quality rather than cost is also an important selling point with consumers, Mr Wolfenden suggested.
"We certainly see that consumers are looking to mix their best choice between a price-led product and a service-led option as well. So consumers are really interested in getting a better service for their money," he said.
