Basements 'can double your ground floor footprint'
People considering making improvements to their homes might like to consider expanding underground, following new comment from one industry body today.
According to basement building specialist CellarWise, the possibilities offered by such a construction are "endless".
Keith Defoe, a spokesperson for the firm, told those seeking help with loans for such work: "If you're in a property with a suspended timber ground floor you can double the footprint to your ground floor. If you've got a 60 sq m ground floor then you can put a 60 sq m basement in."
He added that people invest in basements in order to create kitchens, playrooms, TV rooms and gyms among a variety of other functions.
In related finance news, the Guardian has recently reported that such renovations are becoming popular as those wanting more space but needing help with money realise they can create the rooms for "a fraction of the cost of moving home".
